The S.C. Department of Natural Resources has used fire along the perimeter of South Carolina's least developed water body- Lake Jocassee. Field trip participants will board pontoon boats and have the opportunity to see some of the most remote areas in the state, where both wild and prescribed fires have occurred. SCDNR will share interesting facts about the history of the area and also describe how fire has been applied within a very unique landscape.
After a morning on the water, the field trip will proceed through the heart of Jocassee Gorges along scenic hogback ridges and culminate on Sassafras Mountain, SC's highest peak.
Lunch and transportation from the High Hampton Inn will be provided.
